About Bonn

Bonn's 2000-year history is colourful and international. The Roman legions were followed by traders, scholars and artists, first and foremost, Ludwig van Beethoven. Bonn's 316,000 residents, originating from 171 nations, contribute their diverse cultures, religions and lifestyles. The City Council and Administration are currently establishing an integration concept including the participation of a wide range of interest groups. Based on its competence and experience from 50 years as Federal Capital, Bonn has become Germany's United Nations City and a hub for international cooperation. Seventeen UN agencies are working together on the UN Campus under the motto ?UN in Bonn – working towards sustainable development worldwide". Their activities are supplemented by a dense network of scientific research institutes, development aid services, global players in economy, media groups and 150 internationally oriented NGOs, many of them in the fields of environment and development. The World Conference Center Bonn, formerly the plenary hall of the German parliament, is an attractive venue for UN and other international conferences. With three international airports at short distance (Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, and Duesseldorf), international conference guests can travel to Bonn with ease.
