Daily Conference Reports
Between 28 and 31 October 2008 the 13th International Metropolis Conference comprised 9 plenary sessions and a variety of over 88 workshops. High ranking state officials, scientists, researchers, NGO-representatives and representatives from international organisations from all over the world gave keynote speeches and participated in panel discussions. There were two plenary sessions each day and, each afternoon, the workshops ran concurrently.
A daily conference report was provided by GTZ AgenZ to the approximately 900 conference participants with summaries and overviews of the discussions, the critical issues they raised and the conclusions they lead to. These daily conference reports provide easy access to information and contact details as well as suggestions for further research. Specially instructed local university senior or PhD students served as the conference reporters. They attended the plenary sessions and workshops and generated the contents of the conference reports using a standardised given reporting format.
A smaller editing team coordinated, briefed and supervised the production of the reports. The editors, experts in the field of migration studies and familiar with conference reporting, collected the reports, edited and produced them overnight so that the reports were available the following morning to the conference participants.
The daily conference reports have been produced for the convenience of conference participants on behalf of the Metropolis 2008 organisers. The summaries do not necessarily represent the views and/or opinions of the workshop organisers, participants and/or speakers. They are, rather, journalistic reports. Delegates are invited to contact workshop organisers and/or speakers directly for further information.
